The changing face of retail and packaging are creating opportunities for solutions in the paper coatings and printing/packaging inks and coatings spaces, as described by the below trends proposed by Smithers Pira. I could write to you every week about e-commerce (and you may feel like I do that already), so I won’t focus on that part of the list. The theme that really connects with me is #5 around recycling and barrier coatings. Our industry is notoriously unclear when it comes to sustainability (Flashback to last week, and two weeks before that, and December, you get the picture…) but recyclability of paper is a cause that we can all rally around. Paper is very recyclable (Usually, not when you coat it in paraffin wax or extruded polyethylene) and is widely recycled. In fact, the industry needs the ability to recycle paper fibers in order to remain sustainable, environmentally and economically.

Our projects are actively targeted at improving/achieving greater recyclability of paper packaging so that our customers and customers’ customers can deliver on their environmental goals and commitments.
P.S. The paper packaging renaissance has gone high-end, with Burberry announcing goals to eliminate plastic packaging by 2025. For more, click here

Have a great weekend,
